I came in as a Physical Therapy major and I realized that right away that that wasn't going to be my path. And I think my professors really helped me out with understanding, "How your strengths and your weaknesses of what you're going into..." They wanted me to kind of go into this mass communication major that we added at the University of Jamestown. And I did that and I ran with it.
So I was the Sports Editor of the newspaper here. I ended up being a part of Student Senate and representing the students. I was a Jimmie Ambassador, and I gave tours here. I think that that's what was really cool for me, as a student here within my major because it was not just classroom stuff, it was outside stuff that made you a better person for the career path you wanted to go into.
It was very helpful having professors that knew you because definitely each specific professor in the Ed department has a number of students that they are in charge of, for making sure they graduate on time. So your advisor is very helpful in making sure you stay on track. And even in my first couple months of teaching, it was still a lot of contact between me and some of the professors and asking questions.
So it's not, "You get your diploma, you're gone goodbye." It's more of like, "Let's continue to help you be successful in your career." Looking back on the last two years of my professional career, I think UJ was definitely worth it because I have lifelong friends. And then it started my professional career. I think it really prepared me for it in ways that I'm still discovering. So I feel like I'll always have at least a little piece of me on campus somewhere. I definitely think I made the right decision.
